Funeral services for Geraldine Marie Gabriel, 86, of Albert Lea will be held at 11 a.m. today at Concordia Bear Lake Lutheran Church. The Rev. Gary Hanson will officiate. Interment will be at the Concordia Bear Lake Cemetery. Visitation was from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Geraldine died Monday, July 12, 2010, at Albert Lea Medical Center.
Geraldine Marie Gerhardt Gabriel was born on June 11, 1924, to John and Anna (Meissner) Gerhardt in Nunda Township. She grew up south of Conger in Freeborn County and attended country school. Geraldine was united in marriage to Glennis Gabriel on July 30, 1950, at Concordia Bear Lake Lutheran Church. She worked at the Freeborn County Shopper and Winnebago Industries but what she enjoyed most was being a homemaker and canning from her garden. Geraldine was an active member of the Concordia Bear Lake Lutheran Church in circles and ladies aide. She also volunteered at St. John’s Lutheran Home. Geraldine enjoyed playing bingo and cards. She treasured the time spent with family and friends especially with her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughter, Cheryl and husband Steve Newman of Alden; sons: Lowell and wife Deb Gabriel of rural Conger, Gary and wife Linda Gabriel of Grand Junction, Colo., and Larry Gabriel of Corona, Calif.; grandchildren: Amy Newman and special friend, Tim Wetzel of Alden, Marci and husband Trent Wangen of Hartland, Stephanie Newman and special friend, Scott Soost of Alden, Kaylee Newman of Alden, Carrie and husband Matt Hershey of Emmons, Justin Gabriel of Mason City, Iowa, Denielle and husband Chuck Coger of San Antonio, Texas, Samantha Gabriel and Aron Gabriel of Grand Junction, Colo.; great-grandchildren: Mason Wangen, Luke, Lauryn and Lindsey Hershey, Cole Hanson Gabriel, Toby Soost and Maddison Coger; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, LaVern and Mavys Gabriel of Brownsdale; nieces: Renee and husband Eric Swanson, and their children Tyler, Gayle and Brett of Willmar, Michelle and husband Peter Gerlesberger, and their children Tim (Melissa) and Ben of Rochester.
Geraldine was preceded in death by her husband, Glennis; parents, John and Annie Gerhardt; and in-laws: Oscar and Gretchen Gabriel; and great-grandson, Amos Soost.
