Lawrence Anthony Kalis, age 56, of Wells, died Sunday, July 25, 2010, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Casimir Catholic Chuch in Wells. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. The Rev. Eugene Stenzel and Deacon Gene Paul will officiate and burial will be in the St. Casimir Cemetery in Wells.
Lawrence was born Aug. 3, 1953, in Wells, the son of Lawrence and Mary (Stevermer) Kalis. On Dec. 30, 1978, he married Sue Ball in Wells.
Lawrence farmed until 1998. After farming, he began trucking and custom harvesting until the present. Lawrence loved agriculture and the land — he was interested in and enjoyed discussing the weather and crops. He had many friends and colleagues from Montana to Texas on his trucking routes.
Lawrence is survived by his wife Sue of Wells; sons: John W. Kalis of Columbus, Ohio, Peter R. (wife Amber) Kalis of Wells; mother Mary Oelerking of Owatonna; sister Janal Kalis of Minneapolis; brothers: Stephen (and wife Connie) Kalis of Owatonna, Russell (and wife Sue) Kalis of Portage, Wis., Milo (and wife Pam) Kalis of Coral Springs, Fla. and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by his father Lawrence L. Kalis; parents-in-law Warren and Eleanore Ball.
