Funeral services for Milton E. Stout, 90, of Albert Lea, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at the Bayview/Freeborn Funeral home. The Rev. Mike Ellis will officiate. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery with military honors accorded by area servicemen’s organizations. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Milt died peacefully on Friday, July 23, 2010, at his home.
Milton E. Stout was born on Feb. 19, 1920, in Thompson, Iowa, the son of Ben F. and Gertrude (Flugum) Stout. He graduated from high school in Thompson in 1937, and then attended American Technical School in Des Moines, Iowa. On May 19, 1940, Milt was united in marriage to Arlene Ann Hines. Following his graduation from American Tech he was employed by the Bethlehem Steel Company in Baltimore, Md., until he entered the U. S. Navy. Milt was a range finder operator in the Fire Control Division, in the Pacific Theater during WWII. Following his discharge from the Navy he was employed for 33 years in the U.S. Postal Service and for eight years as a special deputy sheriff in Freeborn County.
Milt was a member of the Church of St. Theodore, the Knights of Columbus, a life member and past commander of the VFW Post 447, military order of the Cooties Honor Degree of the VFW, the American Legion post 56, the Elks Lodge, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and a life member of the National Association of Letter Carriers. He was a charter member of the National WWII Memorial, honoring all WWII veterans, located in Washington, D.C.
Survivors include his son, Jon, and his wife, Gertrude Stout; special friend, Florence Maloney of Austin; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Milt was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene; his daughter, Sandra; and his parents.
