The Tigers got good pitching performances out of Aaron Klatt and Cole Sorenson and swept Kasson Monday night, winning 6-1 and 5-2.
In game one, Klatt gave up no earned runs, allowing only three hits with 10 strikeouts and three walks.
Jordan Mondeel and Colby Strilaeff led the Tigers (11-6, 9-3 District 1) offensively. Mondeel went 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs and Strilaeff went 3-for-4 with an RBI.
In game two, the Tigers got more of the same from Mondeel and Strilaeff to back Sorenson’s impressive pitching performance.
Sorenson fave up two earned runs on six hits, struck out six and walked only one batter.
“He picked it up a notch,” said Albert Lea coach Jack Kortan, of Sorenson’s game. “He looked good with good command of his curveball.”
Mondeel knocked in another run in the second game, going 2-for-4 and Strilaeff went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
“The story of the game was timely hitting and great pitching,” Kortan said, whose team remains tied for first in the District 1 standings.
The Tigers play tonight at 5 p.m. against Owatonna at Hayek Field.
