The following are some of the volunteer opportunities currently open in Freeborn County. If you can help with any of them or would like to volunteer for other things, call Pat Stumme, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program director, at Senior Resources, 377-7433.
Freeborn County Community Worship Service: At 7 p.m. Sunday, July 11, a multi-denominational service to promote healing, hope and help will be held at First Lutheran Church in the wake of the June storms. All are invited to come together in this shared experience.
Freeborn County Fair: Help out on Senior Day at the fair (Wednesday, Aug. 4) by guiding wheelchairs and escorting residents of St. John’s Lutheran Home around the fair. Meet the St. John’s van at 8:30 a.m. or 12:30 p.m. People are also needed for the Albert Lea Family Y Food Stand. Call 373-8228 to get on the schedule.
Habitat for Humanity: You can help with more of the finishing steps just call the office, 507-433-1349 or 1-800-300-1349 or fill out a volunteer interest form at www.habitataustinmn.org/volunteer.htm. Also, check out the Habitat ReStore, filled with discounted building supplies, furniture, and large appliances for sale to the public. Location is 800 Seventh Ave. NE, Austin.
RSVP, a program of Senior Resources of Freeborn County, receives some funding through the United Way of Freeborn County, the Minnesota Board on Aging and the Corporation for National and Community Service.
