Heavy thunderstorms and rain that lasted into Friday morning forced the cancellation of the Corn Belt Clash late model special at Chateau Raceway. This was the sixth racing program that has been rained out this season.
With the distance the late model teams had to travel and with the bad weather forecasted, officials with the Chateau Raceway and Corn Belt Clash made the tough decision to postpone the event.
It did turn out to be the right call as severe thunderstorms and tornadoes formed over southeast Minnesota in the afternoon. Late model fans need not fret though as it was announced the race will be rescheduled.
The race will take place on Friday, Aug. 27, and will end a three-day swing for the Corn Belt Clash. They will race at the Cedar County Raceway in Tipton, Iowa, on Aug. 25 to start the tour. Then they will travel to the Highway 3 Raceway in Allison, Iowa, on Aug. 26 before heading to Lansing.
Racing will continue Friday at Chateau with hot laps at 7 p.m. and racing to follow in all seven classes.
