Mark Harig can handle emergencies

Recent statements from the sheriff candidates have given the impression that Sheriff Mark Harig does not handle emergencies.
When the semi on I-35 threatened gas exposure, it was handled promptly and appropriately under Sheriff Harig’s direction.
When the tornadoes struck Freeborn County in June, Sheriff Harig was actively directing and conducting search-and-rescue efforts as well as requesting from the governor that he authorize the National Guard to aid in security.
During the second debate, one of the candidates suggested that the bank robbery in Freeborn was handled inappropriately. Two deputies were fired at and Sheriff Harig calmed the situation and disarmed the shooter. Handled wrong? Really?
I have heard what I feel are some pretty slanderous comments come out of some of the candidates, and I can honestly say that none of them has come from Sheriff Harig. I personally spoke with Sheriff Harig, and it is his belief that it is better to run on his record, capabilities and experience than it would be to badmouth his opponents or point out their shortcomings. I’m not going to tackle every comment that I have heard, but I would like to ask everyone to remember that politicians are not sworn or bound to be honest, so please ask all of the candidates to justify or quantify their statements. Sheriff Harig’s history is on record, and the others are on faith.
I believe that Sheriff Mark Harig is an effective, honest and willing servant of Freeborn County and will support him in the upcoming primary as well as the election.
