Albert Lea/Austin National Association of Retired Federal Employees Chapter 469 met for its regular meeting July 10 at the Holiday Inn in Austin. Ross Messick was the guest speaker. Mr. Messick is the public relations director for the American Cancer Society and works on fundraising activities for counties in this area. An example is the Relay For Life, which many communities conduct. He also told of the educational activities and research that have helped reduce the number of cases of cancer.
The NARFE business meeting was presided over by vice president Hazel Senske. She noted that dues have been raised recently, so it is more important than ever to work on recruitment and retention of members. Members also were informed of the death of long-time member Milton Stout.
The Chapter 469 NARFE meeting was concluded with a reading by Helene Westrum. The next meeting will be in Albert Lea on Oct. 12. For more information call Jon Green at 377-8113 in Albert Lea, or Ron Seath at 433-2024 in Austin.
