Service to Mankind Award presented

The 2010 Service to Mankind Award winner was born in Mapleton on April 2, 1956. His family comprises of two brothers and two sisters. He attended school in Wells and Easton.
The Albert Lea Sertoma Club selected Bruce Manwarren on July 8, 2010, as the 2010 Service to Mankind award winner.

In 1990 Manwarren moved to Albert Lea. He has been an asset to our community since that time. He enjoys owning and caring for his home on Elizabeth Avenue. Manwarren works through Cedar Valley Services at Trail’s Travel Center, doing a variety of janitorial cleaning duties for the past 10 years. He is a competent and diligent worker and has had many compliments for his work there. At the end of his shift, he leaves with a job well done.
Manwarren attends St. Theodore’s Catholic Church, where he is a volunteer usher. He is an 18-year member of the Knights of Columbus, attends their monthly meetings and participates in many of their activities. He can be found helping with the dishes after events and assisting with steak dinners. He also volunteers at their concession stand at the Freeborn County Fair each summer. He can be counted on for caring for the church cemetery and is a willing worker at the Big Island Rendezvous each October.
Afternoons in January through April you will find Manwarren at the Senior Resources site as an AARP tax helper. For the past 10 years he has been greeting and registering customers and doing other various tasks as needed. He always has a smile and a pleasant way.
With a passion for bowling, he enjoys helping youth understand and sharpen their bowling skills. He is a volunteer at Southwest Middle School for its annual math fair, Manwarren truly enjoys helping others.
When he is not working or volunteering Manwarren enjoys listening to the radio, using the Internet and drawing.
His nomination from Senior Resources included the statement “Bruce is a willing volunteer and is very meticulous and precise in every task and job he is given — you can always count on Bruce.”
The Sertoma Club says, “Congratulations Bruce Manwarren on your service to mankind. You are helping make our community a better place to live.”
