Members of the local Modern Woodmen of America Chapter 18091 gathered at Green Lea Golf Course with the family of the late Vincent Overby Johnson, a longtime golfer, to plant a tree in his honor.
The planting came as part of the fraternal society’s Plant a Tree program.
The name Modern Woodmen honors the pioneer woodmen who cleared the forests to built homes and secured futures for their families, said member Vickie Legried. Introduced by Modern Woodmen in 2004, the Plant a Tree program offers members the opportunity to improve their communities by planting trees.
Planting trees is an important way to create a secure future for families, communities and the environment, Legried said.
