WEEKEND PLANNER: Fair events make for a busy weekend in Freeborn County

Lots of events are scheduled for the area this weekend and much of the events are part of the Freeborn County Fair. Performers at the Grandstand start at 8:30 p.m. each night. Seating is included in the cost of the fair, which is $9. Also popular at the fair is the demolition derby on Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m. A church service will be held Sunday morning at the fair at 10 a.m., and admission is free until 10 a.m.
On Saturday and Sunday a city golf tournament will be held at Wedgewood Golf Course on Saturday and Green Lea Golf Course on Sunday. Tee times for both days start at 7:30 a.m. The Pelican Breeze II will set sail numerous times this weekend for public cruises, as well as pirate and princess cruises where riders can dress up. Again this weekend the “Art in Fashion” shows will be on display at the Albert Lea Art Center, featuring the work of Stacia Lang and Julia Olson.
Friday
- The “Art in Fashion” shows at the Albert Lea Art Center will be on display from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The shows feature the work of Stacia Lang and Julia Olson.
- A Pelican Breeze II pizza cruise will go from 6 to 7:30 p.m., departing from the Pelican Breeze boat landing. Call 383-2630 by 4 p.m. Friday for reservations. Pizza cruises are $20 for adults and $5 for children ages 5 and under.
- George Jones performs at the Freeborn County Fair at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $9 to get into the fair and Grandstand shows.
Saturday
- The Albert Lea City Golf Tournament starts with a 7:30 a.m. tee time. Events are at Wedgewood Golf Course on Saturday and will be continued at Green Lea on Sunday.
- The Albert Lea Farmers Market will be in the North Broadway Avenue parking lot from 9 a.m. to noon.
- The “Art in Fashion” shows at the Albert Lea Art Center will be on display from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The shows feature the work of Stacia Lang and Julia Olson.
