The Albert Lea Area Youth Choir will hold a registration meeting for the upcoming season on Monday from 6 to 7 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Albert Lea. The choir is open to any student from grades 3 through 8. There are no auditions for this choir. Children in the choir come from around the Albert Lea area with singers from areas like Kiester, Wells, Freeborn, Clarks Grove, Hayward and Albert Lea. The choir annually sings concerts at Christmas and in the spring.

The choir is also available for shorter programs throughout the school year. The mission of the Youth Choir is to teach young students strong, healthy, independent singing skills in a positive choir setting. The organization strives to promote a strong sense of self-esteem, self-motivation and accomplishment through rehearsals and performances. The children learn and study a wide variety of music with both sacred and secular repertoire. Youth Choir repertoire includes masterpieces past and present, sacred, folk, gospel, spirituals, patriotic and special novelty pieces. Parents are also an important part of the program, signing up for various responsibilities with the choir. There is a one time registration fee of $35 and the program fee is $140 or $70 per semester. Limited scholarship help is available. For questions, please contact Eileen Nelson Ness, director, at 377-2075.
