Bring the carp back to Pickerel Lake

Published 8:50 am Wednesday, September 1, 2010

For years I have admired the beauty of Pickerel Lake. The island on the far end made it especially beautiful. I always wished I could get out to the island and explore it but never made it. I can remember back before Highway 69 was built there was a spot on County Road 17 from which I could get a brief glimpse of the lake.

Now when I drive by it makes me sad to see it turning into a swamp. I would guess in a few years the whole lake will be covered with vegetation a lot of taxpayer money was spent getting rid of the carp. I wish they were back. For every individual who will fish on the lake, I would guess there are 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, maybe 100 or more who will never fish there. They are content to just drive by and admire the beauty of it.

There must be something better to spend our tax dollars on. How about letting us keep some of it?
