Charles Chicos, 80, New Richland

Funeral services for Charles M. Chicos of New Richland will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Church of All Saints Catholic Church in New Richland. The Rev. Swammy will officiate. Visitation will be held Thursday evening at the Friedrich Funeral Home from 4 until 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Charles Chicos

Mr. Chicos died Tuesday morning, Sept. 14, 2010, at the New Richland Care Center. He was 80 years of age.

Charles was born Aug. 31, 1930, in Freeborn Township, the son of Thomas and Monika (Giese) Chicos. He graduated from Freeborn High School in 1946. On Oct. 2, 1950, he was united in marriage to Ann Margaret Stiles at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca.

Charles had been a lifetime member of the All Saints Catholic Church. He farmed for many years on the family farm near Matawan where he also raised cattle and hogs. In the winter months he was self employed as a carpenter. Charles also planted, harvested and hauled sweet corn and peas for Bird’s Eye Foods.

He was a member of the American Legion and the Knights of Columbus. A long standing member of the NFO and the 4-H. He also worked with the FFA in Freeborn.

In his free time, Charles enjoyed fishing and hunting, spearing and bowling. He pitched for the area fast pitch softball team and at one time boxed with the Golden Gloves.

Charles is survived by his children: Susan and husband, William Freitag, of Rochester, James and wife, Renee Chicos, of New Richland, Steven and wife, Randi Chicos, of Austin, Joe Chicos of Freeborn, Jane and husband, Hossein Beyzavi, of Jessup, Md., Tim and wife, Shelly Chicos, of Owatonna, Mark and wife, Jacqueline Chicos, of Waseca, Elizabeth Chicos of Rochester, Andrew Chicos of Matawan, Larry Chicos of Matawan, Deb Chicos of Eagan, and Becky Chicos of Rochester. There are 22 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Surviving siblings include: Thomas (Ruth) Chicos of New Richland, Angeline Kent of Owatonna, Irene Lust of New Richland, Margaret Chicos of New Richland, and Francis (Eileen) Chicos of New Richland. One son-in-law also survives, Dennis Dormady of Rochester.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ann Margaret; daughter, Mary Margaret Dormady; brother, Sylvester Chicos; and two grandchildren: Edwin and Anthony.
