Albert Lea drops Worthington 5-1
Taylor Friehl had three goals and Ariel Christensen had two goals with an assist as the Tigers girls’ soccer team beat Worthington 5-1 on the road Tuesday.
“I was very satisfied with our aggressive style of play,” Albert Lea (2-1) head coach Rick Barnhil said. “Our passing and finishing was particularly good considering we had a one week layoff.”
The Tigers played Tuesday for the first time since last Saturday when they were blown out 11-2 by Bloomington Jefferson on the road.
Albert Lea played more relaxed against Worthington and dominated the Trojans outshooting them 17-3 on goal.
Friehl scored the Tigers’ first goal at six minutes and five seconds on an Anna Anderson corner kick. Worthington evened the score at 23:21 but Ariel Christensen put the Tigers ahead for good, 2-1 with an assist by Anderson right before half.
Friehl scored two more goals within the first 15 minutes of the second half on assists from Allison Stark and Christensen, respectively, and Christensen knocked in the Tigers fifth goal, unassisted at 75:34.
The Tigers play again at 7 p.m. Thursday as they travel to Winona.
