Iris Reed, 85, Hollandale

Funeral services for Iris Maurine Reed, of Hollandale, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Congregational Church of Hollandale. The Rev. William Bankester will officiate. Visitation will be Monday evening from 5:30 until 8 p.m. at the Bonnerup Funeral Service of Albert Lea, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Hollandale Cemetery.
Iris died Saturday morning, Sept. 18, 2010, at the Albert Lea Medical Center. She was 85 years of age.
Iris was born Sept. 23, 1924, in Hospers, Iowa, the daughter of Ira and Mable (Jansma) Van Beek. She graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1942 and attended St Olaf College in Northfield. On March 23, 1947, she was united in marriage to Veryl J. Reed in Hollandale.
Iris was a homemaker and seamstress. She often sewed for others including wedding dresses. She enjoyed making quilts and had a small craft business. She was a very active member of the Congregational Church in Hollandale and played piano for services for over 60 years. She was also a member of the Ladies Aid.
Iris was an avid Minnesota Twins fan and the game was always on at her home. One of the highlights of her life was when her grandson picked her up and took her to a Twins game at the Metrodome.
Iris is survived by her children: Daryl and his wife Kathy Reed of Clarks Grove, Dean and his wife Doreen Reed of Hollandale, Marsha and her husband Rick Van Wyngeeren of Brainerd; grandchildren include: Dinah Thompson, Grant (Stephanie)Van Wyngeeren, Alyssa Beth Reed and her daughter Aubrey, and Bridget Reed; surviving brothers are: Phillip (Carol) Van Beek of Hollandale and Thomas (Julie) Van Beek of Runnel, Iowa.
Iris was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Veryl in 2002; brothers: Daryl and David Van Beek; sister-in-law, Marilyn Van Beek; and brothers-in-law: Bob and Bruce Reed.
