Freeborn County District Court Judge John A. Chesterman on Monday sentenced Rex Leslie Dickey to 90 months in prison after Dickey pleaded guilty in July to one count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct.
Dickey, 59, will be required to serve two-thirds of that sentence, after which time he will be eligible for supervised release. He will get credit for 197 days already spent in jail since he was arrested March 13 for the crime, when he attempted to sexually assault a woman while he wielded a knife.
According to court documents, the victim called 911, at which time police responded.
The woman reportedly told officers she had finished a shower and was in her room wearing jeans and a towel when Dickey jumped out of a closet wearing only a T-shirt and holding a knife.
Documents state Dickey told her to cooperate or face death. The court files do not allege an attempt at intercourse, but they do allege pulling jeans half off and other inappropriate conduct.
He was initially charged with two counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct, one involving causing fear of great bodily harm and a second involving being armed with a dangerous weapon. He was also charged with assault with a dangerous weapon.
The second-degree criminal sexual conduct while armed with a dangerous weapon and assault with a dangerous weapon charges were dropped.
As part of the order, Chesterman also sentenced Dickey to 10 years conditional release and required him to register as a sex offender.
Likewise, he will have to submit to DNA testing and pay a fine of $100 plus an assessment of $80.
