MnDOT announces new road closures

At 9:50 a.m. Friday, the Minnesota Department of Transportation reported that Highway 65/East Main Street at Clark Street in Albert Lea has been closed. Motorists are advised to detour on local roads.
MnDOT also reported that Highway 3 south of Northfield is expected to close sometime late this morning or early afternoon. A detour route is yet to be determined.

A new detour has been announced at the closure of Highway 63 at Zumbro Falls and to the south by taking Wabasha County Road 2 to Highway 247 and then back to Highway 63.
MnDOT advises motorists to use caution across southeastern Minnesota due to high water on roads. It reported that several highways have water over the road and some are closed at this time. If possible, motorists should avoid these roads.
It advised that many roadways are muddy and when wet, these surfaces can become very slippery. MnDOT also reported that many roadways are narrow and missing shoulders due to flooding.
Motorists are advised to check road contitions before travelling.
The National Weather Service is reminding motorists to not drive vehicles into areas where water covers the road, as the water depth may be too great to allow cars to cross safely.
According to the NWS, Friday’s forecast is partly sunny with a high near 60. Breezy conditions are expected with a west northwest wind between 21 and 26 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph.
