The Naeve Health Care Foundation’s Project Pink Gala is this weekend, and it is a classy sort of fundraiser that calls for formal attire.

This Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at Wedgewood Cove Golf Club in Albert Lea. The gala will raise money for new mammography equipment at Albert Lea Medical Center.

The Naeve Hospital Auxiliary and ALMC are partnering with the Naeve Health Care Foundation to make sure patients have local access to the newest technology in breast cancer prevention and treatment. It is the first time the NHCF has held a gala.

“We’re hoping to have a good time,” NHCF Development Officer Dave Bonnerup said. “It will be an elegant evening and a good fundraiser for a good cause.”

Bonnerup said that people of all ages and from all walks of life are planning to go. There are no tickets available for purchase; the event has sold out. The gala will include a social hour, dinner and dancing to the Modd Squad.

The NHCF’s sole purpose is to support ALMC. Bonnerup said the foundation started in 1963 and has assisted ALMC with various projects like construction updates and buying equipment like ambulances. He said the goal to raise money for mammography equipment will benefit patients and staff at ALMC.

“It’ll be more user-friendly for physicians,” Bonnerup said. “It will help reduce radiation exposure for patients.”

The images provided by the new machine are clearer and therefore reduces the need for multiple screenings. Bonnerup said breast cancer is a common cancer that is treatable when detected early. All proceeds from the $200 tickets will go to Project Pink.
