Rebuilding and reroofing dominate building reports

Tornadoes and hail storms on June 17 have resulted in several significant trends in city and county building reports.
During August the Freeborn County Planning and Zoning Office issued 80 building permits with a listed valuation of $2,841,584. This increases the total estimated valuation for county permits for the first eight months of the year to $8,215,884.
During August, county permits were issued for eight replacement homes and 54 reroofing and/or residing projects.
A permit with a valuation of $850,000 was issued during August to Wells Concrete Products Co. for the construction of a new building on North Star Road, Alden.
The City of Albert Lea Inspection Department issued 106 building permits with a valuation of $921,104 during August. This increases the total valuation for permits issued during the first eight months of the year to $8,571,796.
At the end of August 2009 the city’s report shows a total valuation for permits issued as $10,734,562.
Nearly all the August building permits issued by the city were for reroofing projects. In fact, a report from the city’s Inspection Department says a total of 160 permits have been issued for reroofing between June 17 and Sept. 1.
