Gilbertson, Enger win at No. 3 doubles vs. Owatonna

The Albert Lea girls’ tennis team won their first individual match Tuesday when Kristen Enger and Ashley Gilbertson won at No. 3 doubles 7-6 (7-2), 4-6 and 7-6 (7-4).

“That’s the first time we’ve played them together this season,” Albert Lea head coach Sean Gillam said. “You’ve got to trust the person you’re playing with and they’re great friends. Friendship helped them out.”

The No. 1 doubles team of Alissa Allison and Ashley Petersen played the second most competitive match, losing 6-3, 6-2.

Still, Gillam was happy to get that one win under the team’s belt.

“It’s good to get one win the Big Nine schedule,” Gillam said. “It’s a step in the right direction.”
