Neither the United South Central or Blue Earth Area football teams were able to generate much offense Friday, but the Bucs were able to generate just enough, beating the Rebels 12-0.
The Bucs did all of their damage in the first quarter, scoring 12 points and were shut down the rest of the game, totaling just 17 passing yards in the final three quarters.
The Rebels opened with a solid first drive and moved the football all the way to Blue Earth’s 10-yard line. An illegal motion penalty on fourth-and-one sent USC’s offense backwards, and they never got close again.
“We shot ourselves in the foot,” USC head coach Brad Huse said.
Rebels quarterback Eric Lackey finished 4-for-21 passing for 46 yards with two interceptions.
Junior receiver Kyle Bauman caught half of those completions for 28 yards, while Tyson Morton and Chris Melby each had a reception.
Melby led USC in rushing with 53 yards on 15 carries, followed by Morton with 23 yards on nine carries and Lackey with 16 yards on 14 carries.
USC is back in action again Friday as the Rebels host New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva at 7 p.m.
