Vikings fall to Clay Central-Everly 20-8

The Northwood-Kensett Vikings found their rushing game again Friday at Clay Central-Everly, but committed 60 yards worth of penalties and fumbled twice deep in their opponent’s zone en route to a 20-8 loss.
“We played a good game,” N-K head coach Dave Capitani said. “But we had too many penalties and too many mistakes.”
Spencer Capitani led the Vikings rushers with 149 yards on 13 carries. Dillon Nitcher had 33 yards on 12 carries and Nik Werner had 55 yards on nine carries. The Vikings didn’t attempt a pass.
Clay Central-Everly got out to a 14-0 lead on a two short rushing touchdowns.
The Vikings responded with a one yard rushing touchdown by Dillon Nitcher, followed by a two-point conversion, to shrink the gap to 14-8, but Clay Central-Everly scored on a six-yard run to go up 20-8.
Jacob McGrane led all Vikings tacklers with 18. Tanner Haberman and Tyler Thofson each had 12 tackles and Spencer Capitani had 8.
The Vikings go for their first win of the season Friday, Sept. 24 when they play at Bishop Garrigan.
