The Lake Mills Bulldogs football team kept it close for a half against West Hancock Friday night, but a big second half by Zach and Chris Schluger doomed the Bulldogs in a 35-6 loss.
Plagued by injuries, Lake Mills couldn’t keep up with West Hancock’s rushing attack, as they went all-in on the run, and were rewarded with 340 yards on the ground.
“West Hancock beat us up front,” Lake Mills head coach Bill Byrnes said. “The second half was all West Hancock.”
Down 7-0 in the second quarter, Lake Mills’ Tyler Rice scored on a one-yard rush to close the gap to 7-6. Starting fullback and linebacker Levi Dahle left with a knee injury later that quarter, though, and quarterback Royce Byrnes joined him on the sideline in the second half, as he left with an ankle sprain.
The Bulldogs weren’t able to score again, dropping their season record to 1-1.
Rice had 20 carries for 84 yards and a touchdown followed by Byrnes who rushed for 30 yards on six carries and threw for 38 yards on 4-for-6 passing.
Bryan Hengesteg led the Bulldogs with 14 tackles.
