GLENVILLE — The Glenville-Emmons football team dominated Lyle/Pacelli Saturday, going up 34-0 in the third quarter before L/P scored in the game’s final minute to make it a 34-8 final.
The game started Friday night in Lyle with the Wolverines (1-1) leading 6-0. The game was postponed to Saturday due to lightning and moved to Glenville after Lyle’s field was not ready to go.
While the decision to play in Glenville on Saturday may have been an unpopular one, L/P head coach Mark Buntje said it was the safe choice.
“The field wasn’t ready and kids were going to get hurt (if we played there),” he said.
The Wolverines struck first in the opening quarter on a 30-yard touchdown run by quarterback Zack Williamson. The Wolverines didn’t score again before lightning postponed the game, but one day delay and location change didn’t stop Williamson.
Willamson connected with Perry Kirsch for a 16-yard passing touchdown in the second quarter, and followed it with 12-yard rushing touchdown and another passing touchdown to Kirsch — a 62-yard score with just one second left in the half.
L/P was able to hold Williamson and the Glenville offense out of the end zone in the second half but gave up a 68-yard punt return touchdown early in the third quarter, and couldn’t dig themselves out of the 34-0 deficit.
L/P finally broke up the shutout with 41 seconds left in the game on a Garrett Lester two-yard touchdown run.
Williamson finished the game almost perfect, going 6-of-6 passing for 169 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing for 90 yards and two touchdowns on 16 attempts.
Kirsch led the Wolverines in receiving with 110 yards on four grabs while Andrew Lau caught two passes for 59 yards.
Derek Olson rushed for 61 yards on 10 carries, Landon Hall rushed for 46 yards.
