You Can Help

The following are some of the volunteer opportunities currently open in Freeborn County.  If you can help with any of them or would like to volunteer for others, call Pat Stumme, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program director, at Senior Resources, 377-7433.

Reading Partners: Three times more families have requested an adult reading partner this year! If you think you might be able to work one-on-one with a child to help improve reading skills, come to a meeting at the Sibley Elementary Media Center on Tuesday, Oct. 5, at 7 p.m. This training for any age adult is provided by the new AmeriCorps reading partners team for you to ask questions and decide if this opportunity is for you. Call Stumme at 377-7433 for more information.

Big Island Rendezvous: Every year, thousands of school children attend school days at the Rendezvous. Tour guides are still needed to ensure that the classes get to their appointed area on schedule. Orientation is on Sept. 28 at 5 p.m. and guides are needed for Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Help one day or two and get free admission to the weekend event. Invite a friend to volunteer, also.

Fountain Lake Bookstore: The Friends of the Library bookstore and coffee kiosk needs people to staff it on Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon or noon to 3 p.m. Join the Friends of the Library to provide inexpensive used books and support the Albert Lea Public Library.

RSVP, a program of Senior Resources of Freeborn County, receives some funding through the United Way of Freeborn County, the Minnesota Board on Aging and the Corporation for National and Community Service.
