Author David Francis will speak at Christ Episcopal Church in Albert Lea on Tuesday, Oct. 5, at 7 p.m.
Francis is the author of “Bringing Jon Home” and president of the Jon Francis Foundation. JFF is a nonprofit organization with a mission to provide support and empowerment to the families of people missing in the wilderness. JFF was founded as a tribute to Francis’ son, 24-year-old Jon, who went missing in July 2006 while climbing the Grand Mogul in the Sawtooth Mountains of central Idaho.
After three days of searching for Jon, authorities abandoned the search. Francis organized hundreds of volunteers who searched for more than a year for Jon.
Francis is a retired Minnesota businessman, former nuclear submarine officer and retired U.S. Navy Captain with 30 years of naval experience.
The book, “Bringing Jon Home: The Wilderness Search for Jon Francis,” is Francis’ first-hand account of the search for his son. Francis said he wrote the book to help others, expose the gap in public sector resources dedicated to finding missing adults and to let people know about an uncommon young man, his son, who once lived.
Francis’ presentation will be about 30 minutes. Donations will be accepted for the Jon Francis Foundation.
