C.F. “Skin” VerHey, 80, Albert Lea

Memorial Services for C.F. “Skin” VerHey of Albert Lea will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 6, at Bonnerup Funeral Service, 2210 East Main, Albert Lea. Deacon Mike Ellis will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Friends may visit with family one hour before the service at the funeral home.
Cornelius F. “Skin” VerHey was born on July 20, 1930, in Chicago, Ill., the son of Ed and Anna (Webster) VerHey. His family moved to the Hollandale area where he grew up and attended school. He was united in marriage to Delores “Dode” Olson on July 5, 1950, in Albert Lea at St. Theodore Catholic Church.
Skin had worked as a supervisor in the pork division for Wilson & Co., retiring after more than 30 years of service. After retiring, Skin had worked as a crop adjuster for Farm Bureau Insurance and was also a substitute rural mail carrier.
Skin was an outdoor enthusiast, enjoying motorcycling, football and snowmobiling. He took great pride in his well-manicured lawn and enjoyed gathering with family and friends and watching a good sporting event.
Skin died on Friday, Oct. 1, 2010, at St. John’s Lutheran Home after a short battle with cancer.
Skin is survived by: daughter, Peggy Anderson and her husband David of Albert Lea, son Rick VerHey and his wife Robin, also of Albert Lea; grandchildren: Chad (Melissa) Anderson of Littleton, Colo., Kari Matson of Clarks Grove and her fiance Kevin Davis, Dusty VerHey of Louisville, Ky., Shanna (Wade) Westland of Albert Lea, great grandchildren: Brooke Swanson, Luke Matson, Bryce Anderson, Stela VerHey, CeCe VerHey, Joee Westland and Ryder Westland; sisters: Shirley Stanley of Apple Valley, Lillian (Bud) Thompson of Mankato, brother Edwin (Nancy) VerHey of Hollandale, sister-in-law Mary Davidson of Rapid City, S.D., brother-in-law: Duane A. (Gen) Olson of Albert Lea, and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ed and Anna VerHey, his wife Delores “Dode” in October of 2009, father-in-law and mother-in-law Arnold “Nick” and Margaret Olson, half brothers Gus Davidson and Orlan Thomas, brother-in-law Gordy Stanley and sister-in-law Connie Olson.
