The Albert Lea-Austin rivalry was alive and well in the pool Thursday night, as the Tigers took on the Packers in swimming and diving.

“We gave Austin a run for their money for the first half of the meet” Amy Horejsi said.

The Tigers lead the Packers by two points after the diving event, but couldn’t maintain their hold and lost to the 95-89.

“It was a phenomenal meet” Albert Lea head coach Jon Schmitz said.

The Tigers started out strong as the 200 medley relay team — made up of Galen Schulz, Morgan Field, Amy Horejsi and Lindsey Horejsi — came in first and broke the two-minute mark for the first time this season.

Lindsey Horejsi dominated in the 200 individual medley with a season best time of 2 minutes and 25.22 seconds. Coming in behind her in second-place was the Tigers’ Morgan Field with another season best time of 2:29.63.

Galen Schulz led the way in the 50 free with a time of :26.03. Amy Horejsi came in third for the Tigers with a time of :26.81.

Karli Kriewall continued to shine in the diving event, finishing in first place with a score of 206.05.

Amy Horejsi had a season best swim in the 100 butterfly, finishing in second-place with a time of 1:06.62.

Galen Schulz had a dominating swim in the 100 free, finishing three seconds ahead of the field with a time of :57.07.

The Tigers couldn’t do anything against the Packers again until the 100 breaststroke where the Tigers again had a 1-2-4 finish.

Field finished in 1st place with a time of 1:12.20, a season best.

There were some new section qualifying swims Thursday. Whitney Rasmussen qualified in the 100 backstroke and both Kemma Bergland and Samantha Nielson in the 100 breaststroke.

It was Senior Recognition and Parents’ Night for the Tigers. “It hasn’t really sunk in yet that my season is almost over” Amy Horejsi said.

Horejsi was given many accolades for her leadership to the team and for being such a positive role model.

The Albert Lea swimmers and divers are in action again Saturday in Northfield for the section true team meet.
