ST. PAUL (AP) — An investigation into a contract between the state Department of Education and a former department official found it “made sound business sense.”

That’s according to Commissioner Tom Hanson of the Minnesota Management and Budget Office, who previewed the report Friday evening. The details are to be released next week.

However, Hanson says the process for establishing the contract with former deputy commissioner Chas Anderson was unacceptable.

Three days after Anderson resigned on June 4, she signed a $5,000 consulting contract with the department. It was quickly canceled and she was never paid.

Anderson tells the Star Tribune the report vindicates her. Her attorney did not return a telephone call Friday night.
