Southland downs USC

United South Central’s Kyle Bauman caught a five-yard touchdown pass from Trey Allis Tuesday, but it wasn’t enough as the Southland Rebels handed the USC Rebels a 33-7 loss to end the Rebels’ season in the first round Section 2AA tournament.

“We had our chances in the first quarter,” USC head coach Brad Huse said. “We needed to take advantage of their turnovers and we didn’t tonight.”

USC (3-6, 0-4 Section 2AA) trailed 7-0 after the first quarter and allowed Southland (7-2, 1-0) to score 13 points in the second to take a 20-0 halftime lead.

USC got on the board in the third quarter as quarterback to cut the lead to 20-7.

Southland went on to score the game’s final 13 points to win 33-7.

Eric Lackey led USC in rushing with 15 carries for 40 yards. He also led the team in receiving with five receptions for 70 yards.

Trey Allis went 9-of-15 passing for 136 yards and a touchdown.

Bauman also had two receptions for 22 yards and one touchdown.
