Alik Smed had a hand in every goal and the Albert Lea boys’ soccer team extended a season-high win streak to three games Saturday, as the Tigers won at Byron 4-1.

“It was a big day for Alik,” Albert Lea head coach Elia Romano said. “He’s been a horse for us lately.”

Smed had two assists within the match’s first 10 minutes, the first to Casper Skundberg and the second to Tyler Shaw.

Smed scored his only goal at the 21 minute mark of the first half off an assist from Cesar Herrera, who was called up from junior varsity for Saturday’s match.

Byron (7-4-2, 4-2-1 Hiawatha Valley) broke up the shutout at 55:00 on a goal by Ryan Thorpe.

The Tigers (5-6-1, 2-5-1 Big Nine) responded and scored the match’s final goal at 64:00 on a Cal Pirsig goal, assisted by Smed.

According to Romano, Byron’s lone goal was the only negative of the match.

“We’ve been priding ourselves on clean sheets lately,” he said. “We couldn’t maintain intensity for the entire 80 minutes like we had the previous two outings.”

the Tigers shutout Faribault and Rochester John Marshall last week and have lost only once in their past six matches.

The Tigers play again at 7 p.m. tonight as they travel to Plainview-Elgin-Millville (6-2-2).
