‘B’ bantams place at New Ulm

The Albert Lea ‘B’ bantam hockey team had a 3-1 run in a recent New Ulm tournament held Nov. 12-14. With their only loss being in a close 3-2 game.

For their efforts, they added the consolation trophy to the case at Albert Lea City Arena.

Play began on Saturday with the local boys taking down Hermantown Gold with a score of 5-4. Scoring for Albert Lea were Lewis Kelly with two goals, Ben Kelly, Kasey Habana and Jack Pulley.

Saturday evening featured a showdown with the Omaha Jr. Lancers. Albert Lea gave it all they had, but came up on the short side of 3-2. Scoring for Albert Lea were Alec Avery and Collin Jahnke.

Sunday morning came early for the Tigers, but they defeated the Waterloo Jr. Hawks 6-3. Scoring were Lewis Kelly with two goals, Collin Jahnke, Nate Hogstad, Brent Nafzger and Toby Schmitt.

Sunday afternoon featured a duel of the Tigers from Albert Lea and Marshall. It was a hard-fought battle with a thrilling 3-2 conclusion, as Brent Nafzger scored on a sniper shot with 30 seconds left that proved to be the game-winning goal. Alec Avery and Tatum Miller also added to the scoring.

Tanner Shaft handled the goalie duties in all four games with a great performance to help the team bring home a trophy.
