Barbara Stensrud, 80, Overland Park

Barbara Jeanne Stensrud, 80, Overland Park, passed away Friday, Nov. 26, 2010, at Lakeview Village in Lenexa. Visitation was 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 28, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. Memorial services were held 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 29, at Knox Presbyterian Church, 9595 W. 95th St., Overland Park. Burial will be 1 p.m. today in Freeborn Cemetery in Freeborn. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Church.

Barbara was born Feb. 26, 1930, to the late Herman and Luella Hanson in Albert Lea. Barbara received an associate’s degree from Winona Teachers College in Winona. On Aug. 21, 1949, Barbara married Victor C. Stensrud in Freeborn. He preceded her in death on Dec. 1, 1993, after 44 years of marriage. Barbara was a very active member of Knox Presbyterian Church. She served as a Deacon, as well as being a Stephen Minister, and sang in the choir. Barbara was also involved with several committees and bible study groups. She was a member of the PEO, and enjoyed volunteering her time at several area hospitals as well as lending a helping hand at Top Drawer Consignment Shop and Vita, a tax income assistance group for the elderly and low income families. When Barbara wasn’t busy volunteering, she enjoyed spending her time working a crossword puzzle or spending time with her family playing cards and laughing. Barbara leaves behind a daughter, Christine Gardner and husband, Jeff; two sons: Kent Stensrud and wife, Susan, and Michael Stensrud and wife, Jovita; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Barbara will be missed by many friends and family.

She is preceded in death by a sister, Avis Pederson; a brother, Chester Hanson; and an infant son. Barbara was a classic Christian servant and will be sorely missed by many friends and family. Condolences may be expressed at www.amosfamily.com.
