David served five years as a U.S. Naval Flight and legal officer, mainly with Anti-Submarine Warfare Patrol Squadron 8. He was a Vietnam veteran honorably discharged as a Lieutenant Commander. He was married for 25 years to Carolyn (Farry) Donovan, also formerly of Albert Lea and Rochester.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Daniel.

David was a vice president and branch manager at Midwest Federal Savings and Loan where he worked as a loan officer and savings consultant in the Northfield, Albert Lea, and Rochester branches. He also worked as a financial consultant with Merrill Lynch and later as a substitute teacher in the Boston and New York metro areas. He was a life-long Roman Catholic who loved movies, books, golf and college basketball, especially his beloved Marquette Warriors (now Golden Eagles).

His family and friends remember him as a sweet man and gentle soul who loved his children and grandchildren dearly.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at noon Saturday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Scarsdale, N.Y. Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the VA Medical Center in Northport, N.Y., for the general needs of veterans. Checks payable to the VAMC may be sent to: Voluntary Service, #135, 79 Middleville Road, Northport, NY 11768.
