Editorial: S.F. Giants act small, play big

This year’s World Series was fun to watch. There were no New York Yankees, the home team for cable sports network ESPN.
And there were no East Coast teams, which was refreshing.
And both teams — the Texas Rangers and the San Francisco Giants — had good stories.
Texas had never won a World Series since the franchise began in 1961 as the reborn Washington Senators following the moving of the first Washington Senators to — you guessed it — Minnesota. After the 1971 season, the second Senators moved to Arlington, Texas, and had been a hard-luck baseball club for years, never appearing in a World Series.
The Giants — a franchise that dates back to 1885 — had not won a World Series since they moved to San Francisco from New York after the 1957 season. As a New York team, they had won the Series in 1905, 1921, 1922, 1933 and 1954. As a San Francisco team, they lost the Series in 1962, 1989 and 2002.
When they won the 2010 World Series on Monday, the feat was accomplished by guys who had come to the team through farm clubs, trades and luck.
Being a team won them the World Series, without emphasis on star players.
Congratulations to the World Champion San Francisco Giants. Job well done.
As for the Texas Rangers, thanks for beating the Yankees.
