St. John’s Auxiliary

St. John’s Auxiliary met Monday, Oct. 18, 2010, at 2 p.m. in St. John’s Chapel. President JoAnne Fink welcomed everyone with a “recipe” for soothing the soul. Devotions were given by the Rev. Jeff Laeger-Hagemeister. Hymns, “I Need Thee Every Hour” and “Beautiful Savior,” were sung, accompanied by Becky Nordland.

Auxiliary secretary Caroline Neale read the minutes of the Sept. 20 meeting. Auxiliary treasurer Lorraine Schaper gave the treasurer’s report. Reports were approved and placed on file.

The Oct. 10 luncheon was attended by 159 people. Nineteen churches donated bars; Thrivent Financial for Lutherans will provide supplemental funds. Money taken in was $1,234. A donation will be made to St. John’s Garden Fund.

The Nominating Committee will give its report at the Nov. 15 meeting.

Volunteer coordinator Carla Reichel reported that 673 hours were volunteered in September. Day Care had 40 hours, two You and Me Club visits and four sing alongs.

Vice President Carol Rask read the names of residents celebrating October birthdays and the birthday song was sung in their honor. Celebrating October birthdays are Helen Swenson, Richard Knutson, Hazel Krueger, Lorraine Lewer, Otto VanDeer, Gladys Winter, Frieda Jensen, Sydney Nelson, Marian Sofules, Carol Emmons, Rosemarie Hendrickson, Deloris King, Marvin Goette, Lois Jensen and Dean Flatness.

Ken Bertelson was thanked for presenting the Oct. 13 Cheer Program. Churches thanked for serving Sunday coffee were Mansfield Lutheran, Church of Christ Christian, East Freeborn Lutheran and Hayward Lutheran.

Carol Rask introduced Jan Jerdee who gave a program on “150 years of Aprons.” Carol Wolter assisted with modeling the aprons.

The program ended by saying the Lord’s Prayer. Coffee was provided by St. John’s Dietary Department; apple dumplings were provided by residents of Second South.
