Here are highlights in history for Nov. 1, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:

1985 — A home on the north side of Northwood, Iowa, was used as a “haunted house” for Halloween, then burned a few days later by local firemen as part of their training.

1975 — A new drive-up facility would be added to Security State Bank on Albert Lea’s north side.

1945 — Chris Newgaard, 86, a pioneer and farmer near Bath, died at his home. He had been a Freeborn County resident since the Civil War (1865).
