St. John’s Auxiliary

St. John’s Auxiliary met Monday, Nov. 15, at 2 p.m. in St. John’s Chapel. President JoAnne Fink welcomed everyone with a poem, “Crimson Days of Autumn.” Devotions were given by the Rev. Jeff Laeger-Hagemeister. Hymns, “Come, Ye Thankful People, Come” and “Now Thank We All Our God,” were sung, accompanied by Becky Nordland.
Auxiliary Secretary Caroline Neale read the minutes of the Oct. 18 meeting. Auxiliary Treasurer Lorraine Schaper gave the treasurer’s report. Lorraine reported that the auxiliary has donated $1,800 to the St. John’s garden project. Reports were approved and placed on file.
Ethel Thisted of the nominating committee reported that all positions except auxiliary secretary have been filled.
Committee chairpersons were reminded that annual reports are due after the Dec. 13 meeting. There will be a meeting on Nov. 30 at 9 a.m. to organize 2011 activities. The Auxiliary will serve St. John’s annual meeting on Dec. 6.
Volunteer coordinator Carla Reichel reported that Day Care had 38 hours, two You and Me Clubs, one sing along, and a costume parade with 14 preschool children, 11 toddlers and six infants. October volunteer hours were 776.
Activities director Diane Wichmann said some residents attended the Emmons Lutheran lutefisk dinner and 30 veterans were honored on Nov. 11. Upcoming events include attending “Guys and Dolls” at the high school, Thanksgiving service, decorating for Christmas, ALHS carolers on Dec. 8, the Careyaires on Dec. 13, family Christmas party on Dec. 15, Christmas pageant on Dec. 24, and New Year’s Eve party on Dec. 31.
Vice president Carol Rask read the names of residents celebrating November birthdays: Dora Hayes, Kathryn Allen, Eugene Flusek, Dean Allen, Georgia Nyenhuis, Allen View, Mabel Perleberg, Muriel Balfe, Shirley Felt, Betty Hinders, Fern Baer, Stanley Getskow, Paul Gold, Isabel Loken, Bruce Lang, Harriet Broskoff and Walter Steven.
Chuck Johnson was thanked for presenting the Nov. 10 Cheer program. Churches thanked for serving Sunday coffee were Grace Lutheran, United Methodist of Albert Lea and Round Prairie Lutheran.
Carol Rask introduced Chuck Sandager, Mary Boorsma, Rika, Lydia, and Erin Boorsma of Ascension Lutheran Church. They presented a program of piano, guitar and vocal selections.
The meeting was adjourned by saying The Lord’s Prayer. The December meeting will be held at 2 p.m Monday, Dec. 13.
Coffee was provided by St. John’s Dietary Department and treats were prepared by residents of Second South.
