Students were thrilled about reading

What a pleasure it was to see the office of Hawthorne Elementary School filled with so many of our public servants. As a kick off to our book-fair theme of “Reading Saves the Day” Angie Dauer coordinated many of the Albert Lea local heroes to come and read to the students at Hawthorne. The morning of Oct. 28 started with an ambulance, a squad car and a fire truck all pulling up to the front of our school. Soon the office was filled with uniformed officials signing up for classrooms to read in. Such excitement for all of our students to see individuals they respect so highly modeling the importance of reading.

I’d like to extend a special thank you to each of you who took time out of your busy schedules to share the importance of reading with our students and to Angie Dauer for making all of the necessary arrangements.

Reading will save the day for many of these students as they grow and mature.
