You Can Help

The following are some of the volunteer opportunities currently open in Freeborn County. If you can help with any of them or would like to volunteer for others, call Pat Stumme, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program director, at Senior Resources, 377-7433.
Arc: Help cook and serve the annual soup and chili supper on Monday, Nov. 29. Volunteers are urgently needed for just the morning shift to chop vegetables and stir the pots. Please call for Jo at ARC 377-3469 to volunteer.
Adult Basic Education: You can help adults who are English Language Learners as they work on completing GED and other classes for citizenship. Classes are 9 to 11:30 a.m. and noon to 2 p.m. at Brookside. Please call Diane at ABE, Adult Basic Education, 379-4866 to lend a hand.
Gentle persons are also needed in the child care room to read and play with the little ones while parents are learning English skills.
Community Mentor Connection: Children at risk are waiting for mentors who can spend some quality time with them averaging two hours per week. The program offers training and organizes activities you can participate in together. Help make a difference in the life of a child! Another great way to get started would be to help plan events occasionally for mentors and children as you learn more about mentoring. Carolyn Smith coordinates this program; call 507-383-5272.
RSVP, a program of Senior Resources of Freeborn County, receives some funding through the United Way of Freeborn County, the Minnesota Board on Aging and the Corporation for National and Community Service.
