Funeral services for Barbara Jean Christensen, 84, of Albert Lea will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Calvary Baptist Church. The Rev. Bob Weniger will officiate. Interment will be at the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Barbara died Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010, at Good Samaritan Center.

Barbara Jean Christensen was born on Oct. 16, 1926, in Albert Lea to Alfred and Iva (Larsen) Christensen. She grew up on the family farm west of Albert Lea. She graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1943. Barbara was the bookkeeper and office manager for Motor Inn for 40 years. She was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church and the Ladies circle there. She was also a member of the American Baptist Women’s Society. Barbara enjoyed baking and was well known for making birthday cakes for friends and co-workers. She enjoyed taking day trips through the Senior Center with her friends.

Barbara loved sewing and reading and especially enjoyed camping with her family and spending time with them. She was a very kind and thoughtful person who enjoyed helping others. Barbara will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her brothers: John Christensen of Albert Lea and James Christensen of Farmington; nieces and nephews: Debbie, David and Donald Christensen of Farmington, Kevin Christensen, Kay and Dean Werner, Kent and Carmen Christensen all of Albert Lea; many great-nieces and nephews.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; sisters-in-law: Rena Christensen and Barb A. Christensen; great-nephews: Michael Utley and Edward Werner.
