A 21-year-old Albert Lea man was reportedly stabbed in the chest with a knife early Sunday morning, Albert Lea police announced Monday afternoon.

However, investigators this morning still do not know who stabbed him.

Officers found the man, Keith Kovottis Lee, covered in blood when they were dispatched to an apartment at 221 E. Main St. just after 2 a.m. Sunday for a reported assault in progress.

Lee reportedly met the officers in the doorway to the apartment but acted belligerently toward the officers, according to a news release. He refused to respond to the officers’ commands to stop and charged at them.

The release stated officers were able to “subdue” Lee and then rendered first aid until paramedics arrived.

A police spokesman would not expand on how officers subdued him.

He was transported to Albert Lea Medical Center and then transferred to another hospital. His condition and which hospital were unknown at press time.

The release stated there were multiple people at the residence during the incident; however, no one would talk to officers about what happened, including Lee.

The case remains under investigation.
