Wolverines beat Vikings 46-37

After a win last Friday at Houston, the Glenville-Emmons Wolverines girls’ basketball team looked to stay on the winning side of things on Thursday as they took their south of the border to take on the Northwood-Kensett Vikings.

Kalli Van Rysywk scored 16 points and recorded 12 rebounds, while Robyn Roe recorded 12 points as the Wolverines defeated the Vikings 46-37.

“The girls came ready to play tonight,” Glenville-Emmons coach Lisa Ziebell said. “We haven’t played a game in almost a week, we had three practices this week and we were ready to play.”

Even with the loss, Northwood-Kensett coach Daryl Love says he was pleased with his teams effort Thursday night.

“Overall, I’m happy with the way we played,” Love said. “The girls stepped up and played hard.”

In the first quarter, both the Wolverines and Vikings traded baskets throughout the quarter which ended with a Savannah Lira jumper that put Northwood-Kensett ahead at the end of the first quarter 12-11.

In the second quarter, the Wolverines used a 17-4 run that saw Glenville-Emmons take a 28-20 lead going into half-time.

In the third quarter, the Vikings cut the lead down to five points as Northwood-Kensett used a 6-0 run at the end of the third quarter to cut the lead Wolverines down to 38-33.

Glenville-Emmons pulled away in the fourth quarter as they used a 7-2 run that pushed the Wolverines out a 45-35 lead and helped secure a 46-37 win for Glenville-Emmons.

The Wolverines were led by Van Rysywk, who scored 16 points and pulled down 12 rebounds. Robyn Roe scored 12 points on four 3-point baskets.

Jami Dahlby led the Vikings with 14 points, while Britney Low recorded 12 points for Northwood-Kensett.

Glenville-Emmons is back in action tonight as they travel to Hope Lutheran for a 7:15 p.m. tip-off, while Northwood-Kensett hosts North Butler tonight at 6 p.m.
