City needs plan for winter parking

I moved back to Albert Lea a year ago and was very surprised to see that the city still had no snow emergency plan.

Well, it does. It just doesn’t use it because it’s too expensive. Are people not getting upset with the constant problem of neighbors who may have driveways or garages and yet park their cars on the street preventing the street department from cleaning the streets out when we have a measurable snowfall? The 12-hour parking doesn’t work unless everyone calls in to the Police Department to report a neighbor’s vehicle. There is a plan someone is looking into for no parking on the street from 2 a.m. to 7 a.m. Nov. 1 to April 1 with parking passes to those who don’t have anywhere else to park.

Let’s try to get this problem solved and stop depending on your neighbors to do the right thing. If they were going to do the right thing, they would have done it before now. Let’s get these streets cleared when there is a snowfall and the plows have to come through. Contact your council person and let them know how you feel.
