Law enforcement officials said the man was traveling east on County Road 4 toward Highway 218 when his truck collided with the train, which was heading northbound.

Sheriff Terese Amazi said icy road conditions played a role in the collision.

Although the railroad crossing has stop signs and railroad crossing signs, it does not have gates or lights.

The Austin Police Department, Mower County Sheriff’s Department, the Minnesota State Patrol and Gold Cross Ambulance Service all responded to the scene.
