St. Theodore School receives Smart Board

Students and teachers at St. Theodore Catholic School were excited to receive a Smart Board they had won through a Smiles for Education competition sponsored by Hy-Vee.

The promotion ran from Sept. 1 to Nov. 30. During that period shoppers who purchased certain brands earned points that could be designated to the school of their choice. St. Theodore earned the highest average point score to earn the Smart Board and a laptop.
Al Weisert, store director of Albert Lea’s Hy-Vee, visited the school Wednesday to present the Smart Board.
“When schools and businesses are able to work together to provide learning opportunities for students, everyone in the community wins.”
The Smart Board will go to an unused classroom in the school so all classes can use it. Third-grade teacher Amanda Schroeder is excited to use the interactive technology with her class.
“It’s perfect for any grade,” Schroeder said. “There are a lot of interactive games.”
Deacon Mike Ellis also spoke to the crowd of parents and kids to say how grateful they were to receive new technology without having to fundraise for it.
He said teachers would be trained as soon as it is installed.
Smiles for Education was launched in 2005 by Hy-Vee and has donated more than $3 million worth of Smart Boards, computers and money to schools in Hy-Vee’s eight-state operating region.
