The much-hyped Verizon iPhone rollout will be Thursday at Albert Lea’s Verizon store.

Verizon customers were able to order the phone online on Thursday, and the company had its most successful first-day sales in the history of the company.

“This was an exciting day,” Dan Mead, president and chief executive officer for Verizon said in a press release. “In just our first two hours, we had already sold more phones than any first-day launch in our history.”

Albert Lea’s store on North Bridge Avenue will open at 7 a.m. Thursday, and the phone will also be available at all Apple store locations, Best Buy, select Walmart stores and on Verizon’s website.

The Verizon iPhone is priced at $199.99 for the 16 GB iPhone 4 or $299.99 for the 32 GB iPhone 4 with a new two-year customer agreement. That means current customers can get the $199.99 or $299.99 price only if they’re eligible for an upgrade. If customers are not eligible for an upgrade they would have to buy the phone at full price.

Full price cost of the iPhone are $649.99 for the 16 GB phone and $749.99 for the 32 GB phone. The Verizon iPhone will be much similar to the AT&T iPhone other than the network technology, which basically means Verizon customers can’t use data and talk on the phone at the same time, while AT&T customers can.

Karen Smith, spokeswoman with Verizon, said employees will be at the store at 5 a.m. with hot chocolate and coffee in preparation for the possiblity that people are waiting outdoors. There will be a limited number of phones at the store and will be sold on a first-come, first-serve basis. After the phones are sold out customers can place an order.

Features of the iPhone 4 include a five megapixel camera with LED flash, HD video recording, access to an application store with more than 300,000 applications and much more.

According to Verizon’s website a customers have to purchase the unlimited data package ($29.99 or higher per month) when purchasing the iPhone 4. One-year contracts are not available with Verizon’s iPhone 4.
