The Mankato West girls’ basketball team strung a 17-0 run between the first and second halves Thursday and beat the Albert Lea Tigers 68-63 at Albert Lea High School.
Alyssa Sager led the Tigers with 21 points, 10 rebounds and six steals.
“It was a good game for us on many different levels,” Tigers head coach Sean Gillam said. “It was the best two halves we’ve put together since Concordia Academy-Roseville (on Dec. 27).”
The biggest disparity in the game was at the free throw line. The Scarlets were 23-for-42 while the Tigers were 7-for-12.
The Scarlets led 32-26 at halftime but the Tigers cut the lead to three points with 14 seconds left but couldn’t close the gap.
The Tigers’ Taylor Friehl had 13 points, six rebounds and five steals while Skyler Anderson chipped in seven points, five rebounds and four assists.
The Tigers play again Saturday at New Prague.
