Elaine Sime, 89, Kiester

Elaine LuJean Sime, 89, of Kiester, died of cancer on Saturday, March 5, 2011, at Lakeview Commons in Maplewood. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Kiester. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. The Rev. Dick Steffen will officiate and burial will take place in Our Savior’s Cemetery in Kiester.

Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells is assisting the family with arrangements.

Elaine was born March 3, 1922, in Joice, Worth County, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Beulah (Tvedt) Evenson. She grew up in the Joice, Iowa, area and was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church and graduated from Joice High School in 1939. She moved to Kiester with her parents in 1941, later returning to Lake Mills, Iowa. On Feb. 2, 1947, she was united in marriage to Clifford Raymond Sime at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, Iowa, after his return from 38 months of service during WorldWar II. They made their home in Kiester where Clifford owned and operated Sime Equipment Co. Elaine was an active member of Our Savior’s Church. She was a member of the Dorcas Circle, was active in WELCA and the Kee Korner Klub. She attended County Extension courses and was a member of the Birthday Group. Elaine enjoyed cooking, baking, cards, gardening and dancing.

Elaine is survived by two daughters: Carol Sime (husband John Graftstrom) of St. Paul and Molly “Susan” (husband Jim) McLaughlin of Bellingham, Wash.; one son, Robert Sime of St. Paul; four grandchildren: Brita Grafstrom of Roseville, Peter Grafstrom of St. Paul, Sean McLaughlin of Seattle, Wash., and Colette Sime of St. Paul; step-granddaughter, Andrea McLaughlin; two sisters: Viola Brubak of Kiester and Marilyn Johnson of Clear Lake, Iowa; brother, Harlan Evenson, of Lake Mills, Iowa; two sisters-in-law: E. Marjorie Fjone of Kiester and Evelyn Sime of Bloomington. She is also survived by many relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clifford; sister Loma Irene twin siblings: Arthur and Arlotte, and sister, Lavonne Mardell Thomas.
